HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives wish to congratulate Robert W. Smith on the
occasion of his retirement from the Harrisburg City Police
Department after over 25 years of service; and
WHEREAS, Robert Smith joined the Harrisburg City Police
Department on April 16, 1991; he was promoted to Sergeant on
February 16, 1999 and to Chief of Police on May 16, 2007; he
stepped down from his position as Chief on May 7, 2015; he
returned to duty as a Sergeant, retiring on December 16, 2016;
and
WHEREAS, Robert Smith served as the Lead Homicide
Detective; he also served as a Training Officer and holds many
certifications; and
WHEREAS, Robert Smith began the Shop With a Cop program for
the City of Harrisburg; and
WHEREAS, Robert Smith and his wife, Kimberly, reside in
Harrisburg; they have two sons, Jantsen R. Smith, and Garrett
W. Smith; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
congratulate Robert W. Smith on his retirement from the
Harrisburg City Police Department after over 25 years of
service, and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to Robert Smith as an expression of our esteem and
respect.
