2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | ||||||
4 | Illinois State Representative Alfred G. "Al" Ronan of Park | ||||||
5 | Ridge, who passed away on January 22, 2023; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Al Ronan was born to Phyllis and James Ronan in | ||||||
7 | Chicago on December 3, 1947; he graduated from Fenwick High | ||||||
8 | School; he earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science | ||||||
9 | from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), during which | ||||||
10 | he was a football player and letter winner and later became a | ||||||
11 | generous benefactor; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Shortly after graduating from UIC, Al Ronan began | ||||||
13 | a career in politics as a downstate political organizer for | ||||||
14 | then-candidate and future-Governor Dan Walker; he was later | ||||||
15 | appointed director of the Division of Mental Health for the | ||||||
16 | State of Illinois and as deputy secretary at the Illinois | ||||||
17 | Department of Transportation; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Al Ronan was elected to the Illinois House of | ||||||
19 | Representatives at the age of 31, representing the northwest | ||||||
20 | side of Chicago; during his 14-year tenure, he championed | ||||||
21 | important issues such as a statewide seat belt mandate and | ||||||
22 | consistently pushed for increased funding for K-12 education; |

1 | after departing the Illinois General Assembly, he established | ||||||
2 | and ran a successful lobbying and consulting practice; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Al Ronan loved his daughters, golf, and all | ||||||
4 | things Springfield, in that order; he was a trusted friend and | ||||||
5 | political advisor to many; he will be remembered for his quick | ||||||
6 | wit and extensive knowledge of political issues at both the | ||||||
7 | local and national levels; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Al Ronan is survived by his daughters, Maren | ||||||
9 | (Hon. Nicholas Kantas) Ronan and Jenna Ronan; his | ||||||
10 | grandchildren, Violet and Alexander Kantas; his longtime | ||||||
11 | partner, Cheryl Axley; and his sisters, Maryanne Locklin and | ||||||
12 | Bobbie Siller; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
14 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
15 | we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative | ||||||
16 | Alfred G. "Al" Ronan and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
17 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Al Ronan as an expression of our | ||||||
21 | deepest sympathy.
