| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to recognize the 100th anniversary | ||||||
| 4 | of the McLean County Boys High School Basketball Tournament; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The McLean County Boys High School Basketball | ||||||
| 7 | Tournament is the oldest running basketball tournament in the | ||||||
| 8 | State of Illinois; it has been an annual highlight over the | ||||||
| 9 | years, with the exception of 1933; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The first tournament was held at the Bloomington | ||||||
| 11 | YMCA and culminated in a Lexington High School victory over | ||||||
| 12 | LeRoy; the tournament was originated by the McLean County | ||||||
| 13 | Principals Association and was managed by Lloyd Eyer of the | ||||||
| 14 | YMCA; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The tournament features all 13 schools in the | ||||||
| 16 | Heart of Illinois Conference, including Blue Ridge, Deer | ||||||
| 17 | Creek-Mackinaw, Tri-Valley, Fieldcrest, El Paso-Gridley, | ||||||
| 18 | Fisher, Flanagan, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, Heyworth, LeRoy, | ||||||
| 19 | Lexington, Ridgeview, and Tremont; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, The McLean County Traveling Trophy is an important | ||||||
| 21 | part of the tournament, created by former Pantagraph | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | sportswriter Charlie Driver in the 1930s; the trophy symbolizes | ||||||
| 2 | the passion of the game, the emotion of the sport, and the | ||||||
| 3 | grand history of the Tournament; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The 2011 Tournament is the twelfth to be held at | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center after 23 years at | ||||||
| 6 | the Fred Young Fieldhouse; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 8 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 9 | we congratulate the many participants that will be on hand for | ||||||
| 10 | the McLean County Boys High School Basketball Tournament on | ||||||
| 11 | January 22, 2011 and hope the Tournament continues to entertain | ||||||
| 12 | for years to come; and be it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to the organizers of the McLean County Boys High | ||||||
| 15 | School Basketball Tournament as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 16 | esteem.
