2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. Carl | ||||||
4 | Hopson, who passed away on December 5, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson was born in Bolton, Mississippi on | ||||||
6 | April 13, 1937 to Fred and Pecolia Hopson; he was educated in | ||||||
7 | the ministry at Chicago Baptist Institute in 1965 and graduated | ||||||
8 | from the Moody Bible Institute in 1976; he married Rosetta | ||||||
9 | Ellis in 1967; and

10 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson received his license to preach from | ||||||
11 | King David Baptist Church in Chicago in 1968; he was ordained | ||||||
12 | in 1969 under the leadership of Rev. T.H. Wade at Rock of Ages | ||||||
13 | Baptist Church in Maywood; he later became the pastor of the | ||||||
14 | Revival Center of Rock of Ages Baptist Church; in 1981, he | ||||||
15 | founded New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church; and | ||||||

17 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson retired from the Proviso Area for | ||||||
18 | Exceptional Children in Maywood; he ministered at the Cook | ||||||
19 | County Jail, evangelized in hospitals and nursing homes, and | ||||||
20 | operated a bread ministry; and

21 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson enjoyed singing in the male chorus, | ||||||
22 | bowling, bike riding, and traveling; and

1 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson was preceded in death by his siblings, | ||||||
2 | Fred, Jr., Eugene, Anderson, AlJonnie, Carwell, and Etta Lee, | ||||||
3 | and by his son, Carl Benjamin; and

4 | WHEREAS, Rev. Hopson is survived by his wife, Rosetta; his | ||||||
5 | 4 daughters, Pecolia, Carmen, Angela, and Crystal; his 3 | ||||||
6 | brothers, Clarence W. (Annie), Roy (Cleo), and Emmett (Joyce); | ||||||
7 | his sisters-in-law, Radie Hopson and Helena Hopson; his | ||||||
8 | god-children, Quincy, Brendia, and Alauna; his 6 | ||||||
9 | grandchildren; his 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of family | ||||||
10 | and dear friends; therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
12 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
13 | mourn the passing of Rev. Carl Hopson, and extend our sincere | ||||||
14 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
15 | him; and be it further

16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to the family of Rev. Hopson as an expression of our | ||||||
18 | deepest sympathy.
