Bill Title: Amends the Medical Assistance Article of the Illinois Public Aid Code. Provides that, a recipient of aid under the State's medical assistance program shall be entitled to coverage for only one emergency room visit per year for a non-emergency situation. Provides that the Department shall not be responsible for providing Medicaid reimbursement for a recipient's non-emergency visits to an emergency room that exceed this one visit per year limitation.

1 AN ACT concerning public aid.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by
5adding Section 5-4.1a as follows:
6 (305 ILCS 5/5-4.1a new)
7 Sec. 5-4.1a. Emergency room use for non-emergency
8situations. Beginning on the effective date of this amendatory
9Act of the 97th General Assembly, a recipient of aid under this
10Article shall be entitled to coverage for only one emergency
11room visit per year for a non-emergency situation. The
12Department shall not be responsible for providing Medicaid
13reimbursement for a recipient's non-emergency visits to an
14emergency room that exceed this one visit per year limitation.
