Bill Title: Amends the School Code. Requires school districts to develop and adopt a trauma response protocol by the 2019-2020 school year. AN ACT concerning education.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
10-20.67 and 34-18.60 as follows:
(105 ILCS 5/10-20.67 new)
Sec. 10-20.67. Trauma response protocol.
(a) School districts shall, by the 2019-2020 school year,
develop and adopt a trauma response protocol to establish how
the school district responds to traumatic incidents. The trauma
response protocol shall include a long-term response to a
traumatic incident, long-term care and counseling, and
community engagement.
(b) School districts may partner with local community
providers of these services in establishing and implementing
the trauma response protocol.

Sec. 34-18.60. Trauma response protocol.
(a) The board shall, by the 2019-2020 school year, develop
and adopt a trauma response protocol to establish how the
school district responds to traumatic incidents. The trauma
