Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Provides that the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board shall conduct or approve a training program that educates law enforcement officers on individuals with mental health conditions and establishes best practices for interactions with those individuals. Further provides that satisfactory completion of the program shall be evidenced by a certificate issued by the Board.

| 1 | AN ACT concerning local government.
| ||||||
| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
| 3 | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by | ||||||
| 5 | adding Section 10.13 as follows:

| 6 | (50 ILCS 705/10.13 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 10.13. Training; mental health conditions. The Board | ||||||
| 8 | shall conduct or approve a training program that educates law | ||||||
| 9 | enforcement officers on the identification of individuals with | ||||||
| 10 | mental health conditions and establishes best practices for | ||||||
| 11 | interactions with those individuals. Satisfactory completion | ||||||
| 12 | of the training program shall be evidenced by a certificate | ||||||
| 13 | issued to the law enforcement officer by the Board.
