1 AN ACT concerning courts.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Judicial Vacancies Act is amended by
5changing Section 1.1 as follows:
6 (705 ILCS 40/1.1) (from Ch. 37, par. 72.41-1)
7 Sec. 1.1. As used in this Act, the the term "resident
8circuit judge" or "resident judge" refers to a circuit judge
9who, immediately prior to July 1, 1971, was an associate judge
10and who became a circuit judge on July 1, 1971 by reason of
11paragraph (a) of Section 4 of the Transition Schedule of the
12Constitution of 1970 or a circuit judge who was appointed after
13June 30, 1971 by the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy existing
14prior to July 1, 1971 in the office of a former associate judge
15and whose office was, prior to July 1, 1971, filled by election
16from a single county or, in the case of Cook County, from one
17of the 2 units of the county, and not from the circuit at
18large.
