AN ACT concerning pangolins.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
Pangolin Protection Act.
Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
"Pangolin" means any of the species of Manis pentadactyla,
Manis javanica, Manis crassicaudata, Manis culionensis,
Smutsia temminckii, Phataginus tricuspis, Smutsia gigantean,
and Phataginus tetradactyla.
"Pangolin product" means any item that contains, or is
wholly or partially made from, a pangolin.
Section 10. Prohibitions. Except as provided in Section 15,
beginning 180 days after the effective date of this Act, it is
unlawful to possess, sell, offer for sale, trade, or distribute
a pangolin product.
Section 15. Exemption. The prohibitions under Section 10 do
not apply to organizations engaged in pangolin research or
conservation.
Section 20. Penalty. Unlawful possession or sale of
