AN ACT concerning local government.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The Local Records Act is amended by adding
Section 25 as follows:
(50 ILCS 205/25 new)
Sec. 25. Complaints of law enforcement misconduct. A public
record concerning complaints alleging misconduct by law
enforcement officers, including, but not limited to, audio
records, videos, notes, statements, findings of facts, and
decisions relating to alleged misconduct by law enforcement
officers shall not be destroyed by the Local Records Commission
unless the Commission has requested and received approval to
destroy such public records from the Attorney General. For
purposes of this section, "law enforcement officer" shall
include State Police officers and police officers of a unit of
local government.
