Bill Title: Amends the Election Code. Provides that, if a unit of local government receives a request to make the unit's public buildings within the election authority's jurisdiction available as permanent or temporary early voting polling place, the unit may demonstrate to the election authority that the use would interfere with scheduled programming, and, if so, the election authority and the unit shall work cooperatively to find an alternative location to serve as the permanent or temporary early voting polling place. Effective immediately.

10 ILCS 5/19A-21

Amends the Election Code. 1 AN ACT concerning elections.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
5Section 19A-21 as follows:
6 (10 ILCS 5/19A-21)
7 Sec. 19A-21. Use of local public buildings for early
8voting polling places. Upon request by an election authority,
9a unit of local government (as defined in Section 1 of Article
10VII of the Illinois Constitution, which does not include
11school districts) shall make the unit's public buildings
12within the election authority's jurisdiction available as
13permanent or temporary early voting polling places without
14charge. Availability of a building shall include reasonably
15necessary time before and after the period early voting is
16conducted at that building. If, upon receiving the election
17authority's request, the unit of local government demonstrates
18to the election authority that the use would interfere with
19scheduled programming, the election authority and the unit of
20local government shall work cooperatively to find an
21alternative location to serve as the permanent or temporary
22early voting polling place.
