Bill Title: Amends the Department of Veterans' Affairs Act. Provides that a Veterans Home shall notify the residents of the Veterans Home, the families of residents at the Veterans Home, employees of the Veterans Home, and individuals working on contract at the Veterans Home within 24 hours of an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at the Veterans Home. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning State government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Department of Veterans' Affairs Act is
5amended by adding Section 2.13 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 2805/2.13 new)
7 Sec. 2.13. Legionnaires' disease notifications.
8 (a) As used in this Section, "outbreak" means when 2 or
9more people are exposed to Legionella and get sick in the same
10place at about the same time.
11 (b) A Veterans Home shall notify the residents of the
12Veterans Home, the families of residents at the Veterans Home,
13the residents' health care providers, the authorized agents
14under the residents' health care powers of attorney, visitors
15to the Veterans Home, employees of the Veterans Home, and
16individuals working on contract at the Veterans Home in writing
17within 24 hours of a laboratory test confirmation of an
18outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at the Veterans Home. The
19notification may be sent by mail or electronically.
20 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
21becoming law.
