Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State shall refuse to issue any license plates bearing a reference to an organization organization or person included on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's or United States Department of Homeland Security's domestic and international terrorist lists.

1 | AN ACT concerning transportation.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by | ||||||
5 | changing Section 3-405.2 as follows:
| ||||||
6 | (625 ILCS 5/3-405.2) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-405.2)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 3-405.2. Improper plates. The Secretary of State | ||||||
8 | shall refuse
to issue any license plates bearing a combination | ||||||
9 | of letters or numbers,
or both, which creates a potential | ||||||
10 | duplication or, in the opinion of the
Secretary, (1) would | ||||||
11 | substantially interfere with plate identification for
law | ||||||
12 | enforcement purposes, (2) is misleading, or (3) creates a | ||||||
13 | connotation
that is offensive to good taste and decency , | ||||||
14 | including any license plate bearing a reference to an | ||||||
15 | organization or person included on the Federal Bureau of | ||||||
16 | Investigation's or United States Department of Homeland | ||||||
17 | Security's domestic and international terrorist lists .

18 | The Secretary may revoke any such plates issued | ||||||
19 | previously. Any person
who has his or her plates revoked under | ||||||
20 | this Section may acquire at no charge
new plates and any | ||||||
21 | required stickers of the same category and for the same
period | ||||||
22 | of registration.
