Bill Title: Amends the Public Community College Act. Provides that after high school graduation, an eligible student may attend any community college in the State without paying tuition or the cost of books. Provides that costs shall only be waived after any available federal student aid is applied. Defines "eligible student" to mean a student who has graduated from the Chicago school district with a grade point average of at least 3.0 and who has tested as completion-ready in English language arts and mathematics.

1 AN ACT concerning education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Public Community College Act is amended by
5adding Section 3-29.11 as follows:
6 (110 ILCS 805/3-29.11 new)
7 Sec. 3-29.11. Chicago Public Schools; community colleges.
8 (a) As used in this Section, "eligible student" means a
9student who has graduated from a school district organized
10under Article 34 of the School Code with a grade point average
11of at least 3.0 and who has tested as completion-ready in
12English language arts and mathematics.
13 (b) After graduation, an eligible student may attend any
14community college in this State without paying tuition or the
15cost of books, notwithstanding any other provisions of this Act
16to the contrary. Tuition and book costs shall only be waived
17after any financial aid available through the Free Application
18for Federal Student Aid is applied.
