1 AN ACT concerning elections.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
5 24-2 and by adding Sections 24A-25, 24B-25, and 24C-25 as
6 follows:
7 (10 ILCS 5/24-2) (from Ch. 46, par. 24-2)
8 Sec. 24-2. Compliant equipment.
9 (a) The voting machine or machines to be used, adopted,
10 purchased as herein provided must be so constructed as to meet
11 all requirements specified in this Article.
12 (b) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code, each
13 election authority in this State by January 1, 2020 must
14 acquire and use exclusively the same voting equipment or
15 system, which shall be selected by the State Board of Elections
16 by July 1, 2010. By January 1, 2011 the State Board of
17 Elections shall develop a plan to assist election authorities
18 in complying with this requirement, including but not limited
19 to a schedule for phasing in the acquisition and use of the
20 uniform voting equipment or system. The State Board must
21 deliver its report to the Governor, the General Assembly, and
22 each election authority by February 1, 2011.
