Bill Title: Amends the Medical Patient Rights Act. Provides that if a patient unknowingly and through no fault of his or her own receives care from a health care professional or health care provider who is not among the network of health care providers for the patient's health care plan, the health care professional or health care provider may not charge or bill that patient for that care. Defines "health care professional". Effective immediately.

Amends the Medical Patient Rights Act. 1 AN ACT concerning health.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Medical Patient Rights Act is amended by
5adding Section 8 as follows:
6 (410 ILCS 50/8 new)
7 Sec. 8. Out-of-network care.
8 (a) In this Section, "health care professional" means a
9physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, a
10registered professional nurse, advanced practice registered
11nurse, emergency medical technician, or other individual
12appropriately licensed or registered to provide health care
13services.
14 (b) If a patient unknowingly and through no fault of his or
15her own receives care from a health care professional or
16health care provider who is not among the network of health
17care providers for the patient's health care plan, the health
18care professional or health care provider may not charge or
19bill that patient for that care.
20 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
21becoming law.
