Bill Title: Amends the Board of Higher Education Act and the Public Community College Act. Provides that a student member who serves on the Board of Higher Education or the Illinois Community College Board shall receive a scholarship award of $500 for each semester in which the student member is enrolled and serving.

| 1 | AN ACT concerning education.

| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 3 | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | Section 5. The Board of Higher Education Act is amended by | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | changing Section 5 as follows:
| |||||||||||||||||||||
| 6 | (110 ILCS 205/5) (from Ch. 144, par. 185) | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 7 | Sec. 5. The members of the Board shall serve without | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 8 | compensation but they shall be reimbursed for their actual and | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 9 | necessary traveling and other expenses while engaged in the | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 10 | performance of their duties. A student member shall receive a | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 11 | scholarship award of $500 for each semester in which the | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 12 | student member is enrolled at an institution of higher | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 13 | education and serving as a student member of the Board. The | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 14 | scholarship shall be payable to the institution of higher | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 15 | education at which the student member is enrolled and may be | |||||||||||||||||||||
| 16 | used for tuition and fees, books, and supplies. | |||||||||||||||||||||
