Bill Title: Amends the Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941. Removes a requirement that each petition for a nomination for mayor, city clerk, or city treasurer in the City of Chicago must be signed by at least 12,500 legal voters of the City of Chicago.

1 | AN ACT concerning local government.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941 is | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
5 | amended by changing Section 21-28 as follows:

6 | (65 ILCS 20/21-28) (from Ch. 24, par. 21-28)
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
7 | Sec. 21-28. Nomination by petition. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
8 | (a) All nominations for alderman of any ward in the city | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
9 | shall be by
petition. Each petition for nomination of a | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
10 | candidate shall be signed by at least 473 legal voters of the | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
11 | ward. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
12 | (b) All nominations for mayor, city clerk, and city | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
13 | treasurer in the city shall be by petition. Each petition for | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
14 | nomination of a candidate must be signed by at least 12,500 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
15 | legal voters of the city.

16 | (c) All such petitions, and procedure with
respect | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
17 | thereto,
shall conform in other respects to the provisions of | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
18 | the election and
ballot laws then in force in the city of | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
19 | Chicago concerning the nomination
of independent candidates | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
20 | for public office by petition. The method of
nomination herein | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
21 | provided is exclusive of and replaces all other methods
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
22 | heretofore provided by law.
