Amends the Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941. Removes a requirement that each petition for a nomination for mayor, city clerk, or city treasurer in the City of Chicago must be signed by at least 12,500 legal voters of the City of Chicago.

1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Revised Cities and Villages Act of 1941 is
5amended by changing Section 21-28 as follows:
6 (65 ILCS 20/21-28) (from Ch. 24, par. 21-28)
7 Sec. 21-28. Nomination by petition.
8 (a) All nominations for alderman of any ward in the city
9shall be by petition. Each petition for nomination of a
10candidate shall be signed by at least 473 legal voters of the
11ward.
12 (b) All nominations for mayor, city clerk, and city
13treasurer in the city shall be by petition. Each petition for
14nomination of a candidate must be signed by at least 12,500
15legal voters of the city.
16 (c) All such petitions, and procedure with respect
17thereto, shall conform in other respects to the provisions of
18the election and ballot laws then in force in the city of
19Chicago concerning the nomination of independent candidates
20for public office by petition. The method of nomination herein
21provided is exclusive of and replaces all other methods
22heretofore provided by law.
