AN ACT concerning education.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
10-20.53 and 34-18.45 as follows:
(105 ILCS 5/10-20.53 new)
Sec. 10-20.53. Alternative basic education track. Each
school board shall establish an alternative basic education
track focused in mathematics and reading for students
performing one grade level or more below their current grade
level according to current learning standards and the school
district. The State Board of Education shall, by rule, adopt
standards for the alternative basic education track.

Sec. 34-18.45. Alternative basic education track. The
board shall establish an alternative basic education track
focused in mathematics and reading for students performing one
grade level or more below their current grade level according
to current learning standards and the school district. The
State Board of Education shall, by rule, adopt standards for
the alternative basic education track.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
becoming law.
