AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1821
2 AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1821 as follows:
3on page 3, immediately below line 6, by inserting the
4following:
5 "(e) The costs of the extended post-secondary transition
6services provided under subsection (b) of this Section may be
7funded through available federal COVID-19 relief funds
8allocated to the State of Illinois."; and
9on page 3, line 7, by replacing "(e)" with "(f)"; and
10by replacing line 1 on page 4 through line 1 on page 5 with the
11following:
12 "A new Illinois law gives your student/you the option to
13extend the student's/your special education because COVID-19
14has limited in-person transition activities and services. The
15extended eligibility allows you to continue IEP services and

1activities through the 2021-2022 school year and to pursue the
2goals in your IEP that were in effect before the
3student's/your 22nd birthday. The student's/your IEP team,
4which includes the student and the student's guardian or
5designated representative, may agree to change the student's
6IEP goals, services, or activities to make up for lost
7progress during COVID-19 or to write new goals to address new
8needs.
9 To qualify for extended eligibility, the student must:
10 1. Have reached or will reach age 22 between March 17,
11 2020 and the end of the 2021-2022 school year.
12 2. Have had an IEP in effect between March 17, 2020 and
13 the end of the 2021-2022 school year.
14 3. The student or the student's guardian or designated
15 representative agrees to waive any claims the student may
16 have for compensatory services due to events that occurred
17 between March 17, 2020 and the date the student's IEP
18 services and activities resume in the 2021-2022 school
19 year."; and
20by replacing line 19 on page 5 through line 1 on page 6 with
21the following:
22"IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE OUTCOME OF THE IEP MEETING, YOU
23MAY STILL CHECK THE BOX AND RETURN THIS DOCUMENT TO THE SCHOOL
24DISTRICT ON OR BEFORE DECEMBER 1, 2021 TO RECEIVE AN EXTENSION
25OF SPECIAL EDUCATION ELIGIBILITY THROUGH THE END OF THE

12021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR.".
