| 1 | AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1821
| ||||||
| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1821 as follows:
| ||||||
| 3 | on page 3, immediately below line 6, by inserting the | ||||||
| 4 | following: | ||||||
| 5 | "(e) The costs of the extended post-secondary transition | ||||||
| 6 | services provided under subsection (b) of this Section may be | ||||||
| 7 | funded through available federal COVID-19 relief funds | ||||||
| 8 | allocated to the State of Illinois."; and
| ||||||
| 9 | on page 3, line 7, by replacing "(e)" with "(f)"; and
| ||||||
| 10 | by replacing line 1 on page 4 through line 1 on page 5 with the | ||||||
| 11 | following: | ||||||
| 12 | "A new Illinois law gives your student/you the option to | ||||||
| 13 | extend the student's/your special education because COVID-19 | ||||||
| 14 | has limited in-person transition activities and services. The | ||||||
| 15 | extended eligibility allows you to continue IEP services and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | activities through the 2021-2022 school year and to pursue the | ||||||
| 2 | goals in your IEP that were in effect before the | ||||||
| 3 | student's/your 22nd birthday. The student's/your IEP team, | ||||||
| 4 | which includes the student and the student's guardian or | ||||||
| 5 | designated representative, may agree to change the student's | ||||||
| 6 | IEP goals, services, or activities to make up for lost | ||||||
| 7 | progress during COVID-19 or to write new goals to address new | ||||||
| 8 | needs. | ||||||
| 9 | To qualify for extended eligibility, the student must: | ||||||
| 10 | 1. Have reached or will reach age 22 between March 17, | ||||||
| 11 | 2020 and the end of the 2021-2022 school year. | ||||||
| 12 | 2. Have had an IEP in effect between March 17, 2020 and | ||||||
| 13 | the end of the 2021-2022 school year. | ||||||
| 14 | 3. The student or the student's guardian or designated | ||||||
| 15 | representative agrees to waive any claims the student may | ||||||
| 16 | have for compensatory services due to events that occurred | ||||||
| 17 | between March 17, 2020 and the date the student's IEP | ||||||
| 18 | services and activities resume in the 2021-2022 school | ||||||
| 19 | year."; and
| ||||||
| 20 | by replacing line 19 on page 5 through line 1 on page 6 with | ||||||
| 21 | the following: | ||||||
| 22 | "IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THE OUTCOME OF THE IEP MEETING, YOU | ||||||
| 23 | MAY STILL CHECK THE BOX AND RETURN THIS DOCUMENT TO THE SCHOOL | ||||||
| 24 | DISTRICT ON OR BEFORE DECEMBER 1, 2021 TO RECEIVE AN EXTENSION | ||||||
| 25 | OF SPECIAL EDUCATION ELIGIBILITY THROUGH THE END OF THE | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR.".
