| 1 | AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1641

| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1641 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | line 3 on page 3 through line 7 on page 4 with the following:

| 4 | "(305 ILCS 5/12-4.13c new) | ||||||
| 5 | Sec. 12-4.13c. SNAP eligibility notification; college | ||||||
| 6 | students. | ||||||
| 7 | (a) To complement student financial assistance programs | ||||||
| 8 | and to enhance their effectiveness for students with financial | ||||||
| 9 | need, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) shall | ||||||
| 10 | annually include information about the Supplemental Nutrition | ||||||
| 11 | Assistance Program (SNAP) in the language that schools are | ||||||
| 12 | required to provide to students eligible for the Monetary Award | ||||||
| 13 | Program grant. The language shall, at a minimum, direct | ||||||
| 14 | students to information about college student eligibility | ||||||
| 15 | criteria for SNAP, and it shall direct students to the | ||||||
| 16 | Department of Human Services and to the Illinois Hunger | ||||||
| 17 | Coalition's Hunger Hotline for additional information. | ||||||

| 1 | (b) Illinois institutions of higher education that | ||||||
| 2 | participate in the Monetary Award Program (MAP) shall provide | ||||||
| 3 | the notice described in subsection (a) to all students who are | ||||||
| 4 | enrolled, or who are accepted for enrollment and intending to | ||||||
| 5 | enroll, and who have been identified by ISAC as MAP-eligible at | ||||||
| 6 | the institution. If possible, the institution may designate a | ||||||
| 7 | public benefits liaison or single point person to assist | ||||||
| 8 | students in taking the necessary steps to obtain public | ||||||
| 9 | benefits if eligible. | ||||||
| 10 | (c) ISAC shall adopt any rules necessary to implement the | ||||||
| 11 | provisions of this Section on or before October 1, 2020.".
