| 1 | AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 628
| ||||||
| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 628 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:
| ||||||
| 4 | "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by | ||||||
| 5 | changing Section 3-661 as follows:
| ||||||
| 6 | (625 ILCS 5/3-661)
| ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 3-661. Illinois Route 66 license plates.
| ||||||
| 8 | (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and | ||||||
| 9 | applications
made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may | ||||||
| 10 | issue special registration
plates designated as
Illinois Route | ||||||
| 11 | 66
license plates.
The special plates issued under this Section | ||||||
| 12 | shall be affixed only to
passenger vehicles of the first | ||||||
| 13 | division, motorcycles having an engine over 150cc, or motor | ||||||
| 14 | vehicles of the second
division weighing not more than 8,000 | ||||||
| 15 | pounds.
Plates issued under this Section shall expire according | ||||||
| 16 | to the multi-year
procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | this Code.
| ||||||
| 2 | (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be | ||||||
| 3 | wholly within the
discretion of the Secretary.
The Secretary | ||||||
| 4 | may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be issued as
| ||||||
| 5 | vanity or personalized plates in accordance with Section | ||||||
| 6 | 3-405.1 of this Code.
The plates are not required to designate | ||||||
| 7 | "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in
subsection (b) of Section | ||||||
| 8 | 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary, in his or her
discretion, | ||||||
| 9 | shall approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided
| ||||||
| 10 | under Section 3-412. The Secretary must issue a version of the | ||||||
| 11 | special registration plates authorized under this Section in a | ||||||
| 12 | form appropriate for motorcycles.
| ||||||
| 13 | (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a | ||||||
| 14 | $40
fee for
original issuance in addition to the appropriate | ||||||
| 15 | registration fee. Of this
fee, $25 shall be deposited into the | ||||||
| 16 | Illinois
Route 66 Heritage Project
Fund and $15
shall be | ||||||
| 17 | deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate | ||||||
| 18 | Fund, to
be used by the Secretary to help defray the | ||||||
| 19 | administrative processing costs.
| ||||||
| 20 | For each registration renewal period, a $27 fee, in | ||||||
| 21 | addition to the
appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. | ||||||
| 22 | Of this fee, $25 shall be
deposited into the Illinois
Route 66 | ||||||
| 23 | Heritage Project
Fund and $2 shall be deposited
into the | ||||||
| 24 | Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.
| ||||||
| 25 | (d) The Illinois
Route 66 Heritage Project
Fund is created | ||||||
| 26 | as a special fund in the
State treasury.
Subject to | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | appropriation by the General Assembly and distribution by the
| ||||||
| 2 | Secretary, Illinois Route 66 Heritage Project, Inc. shall use
| ||||||
| 3 | all moneys in the Illinois
Route 66 Heritage Project
Fund
for | ||||||
| 4 | the development of tourism, through education and | ||||||
| 5 | interpretation,
preservation, and promotion of the former U.S. | ||||||
| 6 | Route 66 in Illinois.
