| 1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 4203
| ||||||
| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 4203 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:
| ||||||
| 4 | "Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the | ||||||
| 5 | Elimination of Racially Derogatory Language Act.
| ||||||
| 6 | Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
| ||||||
| 7 | "Public body" means a legislative, executive, | ||||||
| 8 | administrative, or advisory body of this State, a State | ||||||
| 9 | university or community college, a county, township, | ||||||
| 10 | municipality, school district, or any other municipal | ||||||
| 11 | corporation, board, bureau, committee, or commission of this | ||||||
| 12 | State, any subsidiary body of any of the foregoing, including, | ||||||
| 13 | but not limited to, a committee or subcommittee thereof, or a | ||||||
| 14 | School Finance Authority created under Article 1E of the | ||||||
| 15 | School Code.
| ||||||
| 16 | "Racial slur" means any word or phrase used as an | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | insulting and contemptuous or otherwise negative term for a | ||||||
| 2 | racial or ethnic group.
| ||||||
| 3 | Section 10. Display of racially derogatory language | ||||||
| 4 | prohibited. No public body may display any racially derogatory | ||||||
| 5 | language, including racial slurs, within its building, on its | ||||||
| 6 | property, or at a public meeting at any time.".
