| 1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2992
| ||||||
| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2992 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:
| ||||||
| 4 | "Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section | ||||||
| 5 | 1-25 as follows:
| ||||||
| 6 | (10 ILCS 5/1-25 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 1-25. Law enforcement; polling places. | ||||||
| 8 | (a) Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, an | ||||||
| 9 | election authority shall not locate a polling place for early | ||||||
| 10 | voting, grace period registration and voting, or election day | ||||||
| 11 | voting in a building permanently occupied by a local or State | ||||||
| 12 | law enforcement agency unless otherwise permitted by this | ||||||
| 13 | Section. | ||||||
| 14 | (b) An election authority with an office in a building | ||||||
| 15 | occupied by local or State law enforcement may conduct early | ||||||
| 16 | voting or grace period registration and voting at the site, | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | provided the election authority operates a permanent or | ||||||
| 2 | temporary early voting or grace period registration and voting | ||||||
| 3 | polling location in at least one location that is not located | ||||||
| 4 | in a building occupied by a local or State law enforcement | ||||||
| 5 | agency. | ||||||
| 6 | (c) An election authority with an office in a building | ||||||
| 7 | occupied by local or State law enforcement may conduct election | ||||||
| 8 | day voting at the site, provided the election authority | ||||||
| 9 | operates an election day voting polling location in at least | ||||||
| 10 | one location that is not located in a building occupied by a | ||||||
| 11 | local or State law enforcement agency. | ||||||
| 12 | (d) Nothing in this Section shall prohibit an election | ||||||
| 13 | authority from conducting early voting, grace period | ||||||
| 14 | registration and voting, or election day voting at the student | ||||||
| 15 | union on the campus of a public university due to presence of a | ||||||
| 16 | university law enforcement office.
| ||||||
| 17 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
| 18 | becoming law.".
