S.F. _____ Section 1. 2016 Iowa Acts, chapter 1139, section 95, 1 subsection 3, is amended to read as follows: 2 3. a. A Medicaid managed care organization may shall 3 include as a primary care provider any provider designated by 4 the state as a primary care provider, subject to a provider’s 5 respective state certification standards, including but not 6 limited to all of the following: 7 (1) A physician who is a family or general practitioner, a 8 pediatrician, an internist, an obstetrician, or a gynecologist. 9 (2) An advanced registered nurse practitioner. 10 (3) A physician assistant. 11 (4) A chiropractor licensed pursuant to chapter 151 . 12 b. A Medicaid managed care organization shall not impose 13 more restrictive , scope of practice requirements or standards 14 of practice on a primary care provider than those prescribed by 15 state law as a prerequisite for participation in the managed 16 care organization’s provider network. 17 EXPLANATION 18 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 19 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 20 This bill requires, rather than authorizes, Medicaid managed 21 care organizations to include as a primary care provider any 22 provider designated by the state as a primary care provider, 23 subject to a provider’s respective state certification 24 standards, including a physician who is a family or general 25 practitioner, a pediatrician, an internist, an obstetrician, 26 a gynecologist, an advanced registered nurse practitioner, a 27 physician assistant, or a chiropractor. 28 -1- LSB 5942XC (3) 87 pf/rn 1/ 1
