                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
              BY  COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION
  1  1 A Resolution honoring Senator Robert (Bob) E. Dvorsky
  1  2    for his 34 years of service in the General Assembly.
  1  3    WHEREAS, Senator Bob Dvorsky was born in Burlington,
  1  4 and has resided in Iowa City and Coralville and served
  1  5 the area most of his adult life; and
  1  6    WHEREAS, employment as a job developer and an
  1  7 executive officer for the 6th Judicial District
  1  8 Department of Correctional Services gave Senator
  1  9 Dvorsky insight on matters relating to public and
  1 10 private employment needs in the state; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, Senator Dvorsky has devoted nearly 40 years
  1 12 of his life to public service, serving seven years on
  1 13 the Coralville City Council beginning in 1980; four
  1 14 terms in the Iowa House of Representatives beginning in
  1 15 1987; and, beginning in 1993, seven terms in the Iowa
  1 16 Senate; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, never one to waste a minute, Senator
  1 18 Dvorsky has served as chairperson for the Local
  1 19 Government, Transportation, and Communications and
  1 20 Information Policy Committees, and chaired the Senate
  1 21 Appropriations Committee from 2005 through 2016; served
  1 22 14 years on the Legislative Council; served on the
  1 23 Criminal Justice Information System Advisory Committee,
  1 24 the Medical Assistance Projections and Assessment
  1 25 Council, the School Finance Formula Review Committee,
  1 26 the Iowa Accountability and Transparency Board, the
  1 27 State Government Efficiency Review Committee, and the
  1 28 Sex Offender Research Council; and served on numerous
  2  1 interim study committees; and
  2  2    WHEREAS, praised for his ability to work across
  2  3 the aisle, Senator Dvorsky has promoted school aid
  2  4 and postsecondary education funding; prioritized
  2  5 infrastructure needs at the University of Iowa; worked
  2  6 to make the Iowa Communications Network operational
  2  7 statewide; and supported efforts to improve conditions
  2  8 for Iowa's workforce; and
  2  9    WHEREAS, Senator Dvorsky received the Arthur Neu
  2 10 Award for Exceptional Policy Development from the
  2 11 American Parole & Probation Association in 2007; in
  2 12 2011 he received the Hoover Uncommon Public Service
  2 13 Award from the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library
  2 14 Association; and in 2013 he received the Legislative
  2 15 Friend of Housing Award from the Iowa Finance
  2 16 Authority; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 17    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honors
  2 18 and thanks Senator Robert E. Dvorsky for his many years
  2 19 of service to the state and to his community and, in
  2 20 his well=earned retirement, wishes him many happy,
  2 21 healthy years to come.
