Resolution
to
recognize
the
centennial
of
the

establishment
of
the
Republic
of
China
on
Taiwan.

WHEREAS,
National
Celebration
Day,
also
known
as
3
Double
Ten
Day,
is
celebrated
every
year
on
October
4
10th
to
commemorate
the
1911
Wuchang
Uprising,
which
5
led
to
the
collapse
of
the
Qing
Dynasty
in
China;
and
6
WHEREAS,
that
milestone
was
quickly
followed
by
the
7
establishment
of
the
Republic
of
China
(Taiwan)
on
8
January
1,
1912,
under
the
leadership
of
the
visionary
9
Dr.
Sun
Yat-sen;
and
10
WHEREAS,
the
Republic
of
China
(Taiwan)
is
both
the
11
first
and
the
oldest
republic
in
Asia;
and
12
WHEREAS,
the
Republic
of
China
(Taiwan)
is
a
vibrant
13
democracy
and
economic
powerhouse
that
protects
14
human
rights,
governs
through
the
rule
of
law,
and
15
continually
seeks
participation
in
international
16
affairs;
NOW
THEREFORE,
17
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
That
the
members
of
18
the
Senate
offer
their
congratulations
to
President
Ma
19
Ying-jeou
on
the
centennial
year
of
the
founding
of
the
20
Republic
of
China
(Taiwan)
and
a
century
of
social,
21
political,
and
economic
achievements;
and
22
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
Secretary
of
23
the
Senate
is
directed
to
deliver
a
copy
of
this
24
resolution
to
the
Taiwan
Embassy
in
the
United
States
25
and
to
President
Ma
Ying-jeou
of
the
Republic
of
China
26
(Taiwan).
