          BY  DVORSKY, HOGG, HORN, KINNEY, BOLKCOM, MATHIS,
        BRASE, BOWMAN, SCHOENJAHN, QUIRMBACH, McCOY, JOCHUM,
            GRONSTAL, COURTNEY, DEARDEN, TAYLOR, WILHELM,
          BISIGNANO, PETERSEN, DOTZLER, HART, RAGAN, ALLEN,
                        KAPUCIAN, and ZUMBACH
  1  1 A Resolution recognizing and congratulating the
  1  2    Kirkwood Community College men's basketball team
  1  3    on winning the National Junior College Athletic
  1  4    Association Division II National Championship on
  1  5    March 19, 2016.
  1  6    WHEREAS, the Kirkwood Community College men's
  1  7 basketball team (the Eagles) made its first appearance
  1  8 in the National Junior College Athletic Association
  1  9 Division II National Tournament since 2011, entering as
  1 10 the sixth=ranked team in the nation; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, the Eagles began the tournament by
  1 12 defeating Frederick College by 25 points, followed by
  1 13 an overtime win over ninth=ranked Louisburg College and
  1 14 a victory against third=ranked Essex County College to
  1 15 reach the final; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, Kirkwood faced the nation's top=ranked team
  1 17 from Triton College in the final, holding on despite
  1 18 some anxious moments down the stretch to defeat the
  1 19 Triton Trojans 83 to 76; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, the Eagles finished the season with a
  1 21 record of 31 wins and 4 losses to claim the program's
  1 22 second national title in school history; and
  1 23    WHEREAS, Head Coach Bryan Petersen, in his third
  1 24 season leading the team, credited the players' talent,
  2  1 high character, and will to win as the elements
  2  2 that propelled the Eagles to their championship; NOW
  2  3 THEREFORE,
  2  4    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  2  5 recognizes and congratulates the Kirkwood Community
  2  6 College men's basketball team for its outstanding
  2  7 achievement in winning the National Junior College
  2  8 Athletic Association Division II National Championship
  2  9 on March 19, 2016; and
  2 10    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
  2 11 resolution be sent to Kirkwood Community College
  2 12 President Mick Starcevich and Men's Head Basketball
  2 13 Coach Bryan Petersen.
