Senate Resolution 116 - Introduced PAG LIN SENATE RESOLUTION NO. BY COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION 1 1 A Resolution honoring Senator Dick L. Dearden for his 1 2 years of service in the Senate. 1 3 WHEREAS, Dick Dearden was born and raised, and 1 4 resides with his wife Sharon in Des Moines; and 1 5 WHEREAS, Dick Dearden was first elected to the 1 6 Senate in 1994 and has served in the Senate for over 1 7 two decades representing the northeast part of Des 1 8 Moines and Pleasant Hill; and 1 9 WHEREAS, over these many years, Senator Dearden 1 10 served on a variety of legislative committees, 1 11 including the Natural Resources and Environment 1 12 (Chair), Business and Labor (Chair), Ethics (Vice 1 13 chair), Labor and Business Relations (Vice chair), 1 14 Rules and Administration, Human Resources, Local 1 15 Government, Appropriations, State Government, and 1 16 Transportation standing committees, and the Agriculture 1 17 and Natural Resources (Vice chair), Health and Human 1 18 Rights, and Transportation, Infrastructure, and 1 19 Capitals appropriations subcommittees; and 1 20 WHEREAS, Senator Dearden has long been a champion 1 21 for the working people and families of Iowa and has 1 22 been a leader in efforts to rebuild the middle class 1 23 in this state as the co=sponsor of a bill to raise the 1 24 minimum wage; and 1 25 WHEREAS, Senator Dearden is an avid hunter and 1 26 fisher and is a member of the Izaak Walton League, 1 27 Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, and the National 1 28 Wild Turkey Federation; and 2 1 WHEREAS, Senator Dearden has been a strong 2 2 and consistent advocate for the development and 2 3 preservation of the natural resources of the state of 2 4 Iowa for over 20 years; and 2 5 WHEREAS, Senator Dearden has worked with diverse 2 6 stakeholders to establish a vision of the future 2 7 for natural resources and outdoor recreation in this 2 8 state; and 2 9 WHEREAS, in retirement Senator Dearden will 2 10 have more time to enjoy hunting on properties with 2 11 improved public access and fishing in high=quality 2 12 streams across the state, many of which he has been 2 13 instrumental in developing and preserving; NOW 2 14 THEREFORE, 2 15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honors 2 16 and thanks Senator Dick L.
