                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
              BY  COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION
  1  1 A Resolution in support of the Jewish State of
  1  2    Israel and a negotiated settlement resulting in a
  1  3    Palestinian State.
  1  4    WHEREAS, the State of Iowa and the State of Israel
  1  5 have a deep history of friendship and are allies in
  1  6 support of each other's interests; and
  1  7    WHEREAS, the State of Israel, the only democracy in
  1  8 the Middle East, is a genuine friend and strategic ally
  1  9 of the United States in the Middle East; and
  1 10    WHEREAS, the Iowa Senate recognizes the importance
  1 11 of expressing support for the Jewish people and
  1 12 the State of Israel's right to exist and right of
  1 13 self=defense; and
  1 14    WHEREAS, the Iowa Senate recognizes that the
  1 15 Palestinian people have the right to live in peace with
  1 16 stability and the right of self=determination; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, strong cultural, economic, social,
  1 18 business, governmental, and educational relationships
  1 19 exist between the State of Iowa and the State of Israel
  1 20 and between the State of Iowa and the Palestinian
  1 21 people; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, Iowans of all faiths remain committed
  1 23 to a two=state solution, a Jewish homeland, and
  1 24 a Palestinian state living side=by=side in peace,
  1 25 prosperity, and security as envisioned by the historic
  1 26 Oslo Accords; and
  1 27    WHEREAS, legitimate concerns regarding future
  2  1 relations between Israelis and Palestinians are best
  2  2 addressed through the pursuit and realization of
  2  3 a negotiated settlement resulting in a two=state
  2  4 solution; and
  2  5    WHEREAS, the Iowa Senate recognizes that a two=state
  2  6 solution is the best way for Israel to achieve
  2  7 long=term international recognition and security and
  2  8 for the Palestinian people to achieve their national
  2  9 aspirations; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 10    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Iowa Senate
  2 11 recognizes and reaffirms its support of the Jewish
  2 12 State of Israel as well as its support for a negotiated
  2 13 settlement resulting in a Palestinian State with the
  2 14 right of self=determination living in peace next to the
  2 15 State of Israel; and
  2 16    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa Senate
  2 17 supports Iowans of all backgrounds and of all faiths
  2 18 in seeking peace and justice for all people and swift
  2 19 resolutions to conflicts around the globe.
