Senate Resolution 113 - Introduced PAG LIN SENATE RESOLUTION NO. BY DOTZLER 1 1 A Resolution recognizing the life and work of musician 1 2 and radio broadcaster Bob Dorr. 1 3 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr is a renowned Iowa bandleader, 1 4 musician, and public radio show host whose career spans 1 5 over 40 years; and 1 6 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr began his career in music 1 7 broadcasting on October 2, 1972, as an undergraduate 1 8 student at the University of Northern Iowa and student 1 9 broadcaster for the KUNI radio station; and 1 10 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr has been a bandleader for over 1 11 40 years, with 36 years leading, singing, and playing 1 12 multiple instruments in Iowa's beloved Blue Band, 1 13 which has traversed the nation and recorded over 25 1 14 albums and has performed for 34 years at the Iowa State 1 15 Fair; and 1 16 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr has hosted radio shows on Iowa 1 17 Public Radio spanning every genre from classical 1 18 to rock and blues to folk, including shows such as 1 19 Progression, Folkways 1, Folkways 2, and Collage, and 1 20 is currently in his 8th year of hosting "Blue Avenue", 1 21 in his 40th year of hosting "Beatles Medley", and in 1 22 his 38th year of hosting the iconic "Backtracks"; and 1 23 WHEREAS, Bob Dorr was twice inducted into the Iowa 1 24 Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, first for his radio career 1 25 in 2000, and then for his role as leader of the Blue 1 26 Band in 2007, and was also inducted into the Iowa Blues 1 27 Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Quad Cities Blues Hall of 1 28 Fame on March 11, 2018; NOW THEREFORE, 2 1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 2 2 hereby recognizes musician and radio broadcaster Bob 2 3 Dorr as an Iowa icon, extends its profound gratitude 2 4 for his lifelong dedication to, and uncommon impact 2 5 on, the cultural landscape and history of the State 2 6 of Iowa, and exhorts the people of Iowa to always 2 7 remember and appreciate his generous and prodigious 2 8 contribution in the form of musical composition, live 2 9 music performance, artistic entrepreneurship, and radio 2 10 broadcasting.
