S.F. 326 Section 1. Section 97B.1A, subsection 8, paragraph a, Code 1 2021, is amended by adding the following new subparagraph: 2 NEW SUBPARAGRAPH . (14) Graduate medical students while 3 serving as interns or resident doctors in training at any 4 hospital. 5 Sec. 2. Section 97B.1A, subsection 8, paragraph b, 6 subparagraph (2), Code 2021, is amended to read as follows: 7 (2) Graduate medical students while serving as interns or 8 resident doctors in training at any hospital, or county County 9 medical examiners and deputy county medical examiners under 10 chapter 331, subchapter V, part 8 , who are not full-time county 11 employees. 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 This bill relates to eligibility for coverage under the 16 Iowa public employees’ retirement system (IPERS). Current 17 law provides that graduate medical students while serving as 18 interns or resident doctors in training at any hospital are 19 not employees for purposes of IPERS.
