  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  708.11A  Unauthorized placement of
  1  2 global positioning device.
  1  3    1.  A person commits unauthorized placement of a global
  1  4 positioning device, when, with intent to intimidate, annoy, or
  1  5 alarm another person, the person, without the consent of the
  1  6 other person, places a global positioning device on the other
  1  7 person or an object in order to track the movements of the
  1  8 other person without a legitimate purpose.
  1  9    2.  A person who commits a violation of this section commits
  1 10 a serious misdemeanor.
  1 11                           EXPLANATION
  1 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 13 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 14    The bill relates to the unauthorized placement of a global
  1 15 positioning device.
  1 16    Under the bill, a person commits unauthorized placement of
  1 17 a global positioning device, when, with intent to intimidate,
  1 18 annoy, or alarm another person, the person, without the consent
  1 19 of the other person, places a global positioning device on the
  1 20 other person or an object in order to track the movements of
  1 21 the other person without a legitimate purpose.
  1 22    A person who violates the bill commits a serious
  1 23 misdemeanor.  A serious misdemeanor is punishable by
  1 24 confinement for no more than one year and a fine of at least
  1 25 $315 but not more than $1,875.
