  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.362, Code 2017, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    321.362  Unattended motor vehicle.
  1  4    No A person driving or in charge of a motor vehicle shall
  1  5 not permit it the vehicle to stand unattended without first
  1  6 stopping the engine, or when standing upon any perceptible
  1  7 grade without effectively setting the brake thereon and turning
  1  8 the front wheels to the curb or side of the highway.
  1  9                           EXPLANATION
  1 10 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 11 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 12    Current law prohibits a person from permitting a vehicle to
  1 13 stand unattended without first stopping the engine, or without
  1 14 effectively setting the brake and turning the front wheels to
  1 15 the curb or side of the highway when the vehicle is standing
  1 16 upon any perceptible grade. A violation of this provision is
  1 17 punishable by a scheduled fine of $20.
  1 18    This bill eliminates the prohibition on permitting a motor
  1 19 vehicle to stand unattended without first stopping the engine.
