Senate File 2265 - Introduced SENATE FILE BY SCHNEIDER A BILL FOR 1 An Act expanding the practice of cosmetology to include shaving 2 or trimming a beard. 3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: TLSB 6107XS (1) 87 ss/rh PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 157.1, subsection 5, Code 2018, is 1 2 amended by adding the following new paragraph: 1 3 NEW PARAGRAPH. f. Shaving or trimming a beard. 1 4 Sec. 2. Section 157.3A, Code 2018, is amended by adding the 1 5 following new subsection: 1 6 NEW SUBSECTION. 6. Shaving or trimming a beard by means 1 7 of a straight edge razor shall only be performed by a licensed 1 8 cosmetologist trained in the use of a straight edge razor in 1 9 compliance with applicable rules of the board. 1 10 EXPLANATION 1 11 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 12 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 13 This bill expands the definition of cosmetology to include 1 14 shaving or trimming a beard. The bill allows a licensed 1 15 cosmetologist to shave or trim a beard using a straight edge 1 16 razor after submitting to the board of cosmetology arts and 1 17 sciences proof of having been trained in the use of a straight 1 18 edge razor in compliance with applicable rules of the board. 1 19 Cosmetologists in Iowa are licensed by the board of 1 20 cosmetology arts and sciences. The board establishes rules 1 21 for the practice of cosmetology, including rules relating 1 22 to certain educational requirements, the investigation of 1 23 complaints, and licensee discipline.
