NEW SECTION. 279.70 School district building 1 2 security plans. 1 3 The board of directors of a school district shall establish 1 4 a security plan for individual school buildings in the school 1 5 district in which students are educated no later than June 30, 1 6 2019. The plan shall include but not be limited to responses 1 7 to active shooter scenarios and natural disasters. The 1 8 board shall consider any recommendations of the department 1 9 of education relating to school security planning and shall 1 10 consult with local law enforcement agencies and the local 1 11 emergency management coordinator in the development of the 1 12 plan. The board shall ensure that the plan is distributed to 1 13 the parents or guardians of all students enrolled in the school 1 14 district at least once per school year. Such distribution may 1 15 be electronic. The board shall ensure that the plan is shared 1 16 with students enrolled in the school district at a school 1 17 assembly at least once per school year. 1 18 EXPLANATION 1 19 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 20 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 21 This bill requires the board of directors of a school 1 22 district to establish a security plan for individual school 1 23 buildings in the school district in which students are educated 1 24 no later than June 30, 2019.
