  1  1    Section 1.  Section 483A.8, subsection 7, Code 2018, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    7.  A person who is issued a youth deer hunting license and
  1  4 does not take a deer during the youth deer hunting season may
  1  5 use the deer hunting license and unused tag during any other
  1  6 firearm established deer hunting season that is established by
  1  7 the commission to take a deer of either sex using the method of
  1  8 take authorized by rule for each season being hunted. If the
  1  9 tag is filled during one of the seasons, the license will not
  1 10 be valid in subsequent seasons.
  1 11                           EXPLANATION
  1 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 13 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 14    Currently, residents of Iowa who are at least 12 but no older
  1 15 than 16 years of age may obtain youth deer hunting licenses and
  1 16 accompanying tags. A youth hunter who fails to take a deer
  1 17 during the youth deer season may use the youth deer license and
  1 18 unused tag during the early or late muzzleloader and one of the
  1 19 two shotgun seasons, but not during any other seasons.
  1 20    This bill removes the seasonal limitations for hunting
  1 21 while using a youth deer license. The bill provides that a
  1 22 youth hunter may use a youth deer license and tag during any
  1 23 established deer hunting season, using the weapon authorized
  1 24 for the season being hunted.
