906.5,
subsection
1,
paragraph
a,
Code

2022,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

a.
The
board
shall
establish
and
implement
a
plan
by
which

the
board
systematically
reviews
the
status
of
each
person
who
4
has
been
committed
to
the
custody
of
the
director
of
the
Iowa
5
department
of
corrections
and
considers
the
person’s
prospects
6
for
parole
or
work
release.

(1)
The
board
at
least
annually
shall
review
the
status
of
a
8
person
other
than
a
class
“A”
felon,
a
class
“B”
felon
serving
9
a
sentence
of
more
than
twenty-five
years,
or
a
felon
serving
10
an
offense
punishable
under
section
902.9,
subsection
1
,
11
paragraph
“a”
,
or
a
felon
serving
a
mandatory
minimum
sentence
12
other
than
a
class
“A”
felon,
and
provide
the
person
with
13
notice
of
the
board’s
parole
or
work
release
decision.

(2)
The
board
shall
review,
every
five
years,
the
status
15
of
a
person
serving
a
sentence
of
more
than
twenty-five
years
16
other
than
a
class
“A”
felon
or
a
felon
serving
a
mandatory
17
minimum
sentence
other
than
a
class
“A”
felon,
and
provide
18
the
person
with
notice
of
the
board’s
parole
or
work
release

decision.

This
bill
relates
to
parole
board
review
of
the
status
of

certain
persons
committed
to
the
department
of
corrections.

Current
law
provides
that
the
parole
board
shall,
at
least

annually,
review
the
status
of
a
person
other
than
a
class
27
“A”
felon,
a
class
“B”
felon
serving
a
sentence
of
more
than
28
25
years,
a
felon
serving
an
offense
punishable
under
Code
29
section
902.9(1)(a)
(conspiracy
to
manufacture
for
delivery
30
or
delivery
or
intent
or
conspiracy
to
deliver
amphetamine
or
31
methamphetamine
to
a
minor),
or
a
felon
serving
a
mandatory
32
minimum
sentence
other
than
a
class
“A”
felon,
and
provide

the
person
with
notice
of
the
board’s
parole
or
work
release
