amended
to
read
as
follows:

Throughout
the
history
of
Iowa
and
of
the
United
States,

common
thread
binding
individuals
of
differing
backgrounds

together
has
been
the
English
language
and
any
other
language

deemed
necessary
to
achieve
the
purposes
of
the
state
of
Iowa

and
the
political
subdivisions
of
the
state
.

inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
amends
Code
section
1.18,
regarding
Iowa
English

language
reaffirmation,
to
provide
that
the
general
assembly

declares
that
the
common
thread
binding
individuals
in
the
13
state
includes,
in
addition
to
the
English
language,
any
other
14
language
deemed
necessary
to
achieve
the
purposes
of
the
state.
