S.F. 2004 Section 1. Section 256.42, subsection 6, Code 2020, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 6. Coursework offered under the initiative shall be 3 rigorous and high quality, and the department shall annually 4 evaluate the quality of the courses and ensure that coursework 5 is aligned with the state’s core curriculum and core content 6 requirements and standards, as well as national standards 7 of quality for online courses issued by an internationally 8 recognized association for kindergarten through grade twelve 9 online learning. The initiative shall offer, at a minimum, 10 Chinese language coursework for students in grades nine through 11 twelve. 12 Sec. 2. Section 256.42, Code 2020, is amended by adding the 13 following new subsection: 14 NEW SUBSECTION . 9. For each fiscal year beginning on or 15 after July 1, 2020, there is appropriated from the general fund 16 of the state to the department the sum of five hundred thousand 17 dollars to be used for administering this section. 18 EXPLANATION 19 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 20 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 21 This bill appropriates $500,000, for the fiscal year 22 beginning July 1, 2020, and each succeeding fiscal year, from 23 the general fund of the state to the department of education 24 for purposes of administering the Iowa learning online 25 initiative.
