Section 272.2, Code 2018, is amended by adding 1 2 the following new subsection: 1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 21. Adopt rules pursuant to chapter 1 4 17A requiring persons holding a license, certificate, 1 5 authorization, or statement of recognition issued by the 1 6 board who provide a service to students to undergo one hour 1 7 of training on suicide awareness and prevention per calendar 1 8 year as a condition of renewal of the license, certificate, 1 9 authorization, or statement of recognition. A person may meet 1 10 this requirement through independent self=review of training 1 11 materials approved by the board. 1 12 EXPLANATION 1 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 14 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 15 This bill directs the board of educational examiners 1 16 to adopt administrative rules that condition the renewal 1 17 of a license, certificate, authorization, or statement of 1 18 recognition issued by the board upon the holder undergoing 1 19 one hour of training on suicide awareness and prevention per 1 20 calendar year. The requirement applies to persons who provide 1 21 services to students.
