  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.37, subsection 2, Code 2018, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    2.  Registration plates issued for Notwithstanding
  1  4 subsection 1, a motor vehicle which is model year 1948 1978 or
  1  5 older, and or a reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles
  1  6  vehicle built to resemble a vehicle which is model year 1948
  1  7 vehicle 1978 or older, other than a truck registered for more
  1  8 than five tons, autocycle, motorcycle, or truck tractor, may
  1  9 display one registration plate on the rear of the vehicle if
  1 10 the other registration plate issued to the vehicle is carried
  1 11 in the vehicle at all times when the vehicle is operated on a
  1 12 public highway.
  1 13                           EXPLANATION
  1 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 15 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 16    Since 1997, Iowa has allowed certain motor vehicles which
  1 17 are model year 1948 or older, and certain reconstructed or
  1 18 specially constructed vehicles built to resemble vehicles which
  1 19 are model year 1948 or older, to display one registration plate
  1 20 on the rear of the vehicle if the other registration plate
  1 21 issued to the vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times
  1 22 when the vehicle is operated on a public highway. Trucks
  1 23 registered for more than five tons, autocycles, motorcycles,
  1 24 and truck tractors are excluded from the provision. This bill
  1 25 expands the provision to include motor vehicles which are model
  1 26 year 1978 or older, and reconstructed or specially constructed
  1 27 vehicles built to resemble vehicles which are model year
  1 28 1978 or older. The bill does not amend the list of vehicles
  1 29 excluded from the provision under current law.
