Section 483A.8, subsection 7, Code 2018, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 7. A person who is issued a youth deer hunting license 1 4and does not take a deer during the youth deer hunting season1 5 may use the deer hunting license andunusedtag during any 1 6other firearmdeer hunting seasonthat is established by the 1 7 commission to take a deer of either sex. 1 8 EXPLANATION 1 9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 10 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 11 Currently, residents of Iowa who are at least 12 but no older 1 12 than 16 years of age may obtain youth deer hunting licenses and 1 13 accompanying tags. A youth hunter who fails to take a deer 1 14 during the youth deer season may use the youth deer license and 1 15 unused tag during the early or late muzzleloader and one of the 1 16 two shotgun seasons, but not during any other seasons. 1 17 This bill removes the seasonal limitations for hunting while 1 18 using a youth deer license. The bill provides that a youth 1 19 hunter may use a youth deer license and tag during any deer 1 20 hunting season, regardless of weapon requirements or other 1 21 restrictions.
