Bone
marrow
donation
public

awareness.

1.
The
department,
in
cooperation
with
hospitals,
primary
3
care
providers,
urgent
care
physicians,
the
Iowa
marrow
donor
4
program,
and
other
entities
with
experience
or
expertise
5
in
bone
marrow
donation
or
transplant,
shall
develop
and
6
disseminate
in
printed
and
electronic
form,
and
in
any
other
7
manner
determined
effective,
information
regarding
bone
marrow
8
donation
in
the
state
to
increase
public
awareness.
The
9
information
developed
and
disseminated
shall
include
but
not
be
10
limited
to
all
of
the
following:
11
a.
The
need
for
bone
marrow
donations.
12
b.
Patient
populations
that
would
benefit
from
bone
marrow
13
donations.
14
c.
How
to
join
a
bone
marrow
registry.
15
d.
How
to
acquire
a
free
buccal
swab
kit
from
a
bone
marrow
16
registry.

e.
Leave
of
absence
opportunities
for
an
employee
who
18
requests
a
leave
of
absence
to
serve
as
a
bone
marrow
donor,
19
including
the
bone
marrow
and
organ
donation
incentive
program
20
opportunity
for
state
employees
pursuant
to
section
70A.39.

f.
The
facts
and
misconceptions
about
bone
marrow
donation.

The
department
shall
update
the
information
developed

and
disseminated
under
this
section
as
necessary
to
provide

current
and
accurate
information
to
the
public.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
requires
the
department
of
public
health
(DPH),
in

cooperation
with
hospitals,
primary
care
providers,
urgent
care

physicians,
the
Iowa
marrow
donor
program,
and
other
entities

with
experience
or
expertise
in
bone
marrow
donation
or
32
transplant,
to
develop
and
disseminate,
in
formats
determined
33
effective,
information
regarding
bone
marrow
donation
in
the
34
state
to
increase
public
awareness.
The
bill
specifies
the
