Section 388.6, Code 2017, is amended to read as 1 2 follows: 1 3 388.6 Discrimination in rates == exceptions. 1 4 1. A city utility or a combined utility system may not 1 5 provide use or service at a discriminatory rate, except to the 1 6 city or its agencies, as provided in section 384.91. 1 7 2. Notwithstanding subsection 1, a city utility or a 1 8 combined utility system may provide use or service at a reduced 1 9 rate to persons who are at least sixty=five years of age or 1 10 older. 1 11 EXPLANATION 1 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 13 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 14 Current Code section 388.6 prohibits city utilities and 1 15 combined utility systems from providing discriminatory rates to 1 16 customers, except to cities or its agencies. 1 17 This bill authorizes city utilities and combined utility 1 18 systems to provide use or service at a reduced rate to persons 1 19 who are at least 65 years of age or older.
