  3    core standards.
  4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 256.9, subsection 53, Code 2015, is
  1  2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
  1  3    NEW PARAGRAPH.  d.  Maintain on the department's internet
  1  4 site a searchable database of examples of lesson plans for
  1  5 each of the Iowa core standards by grade and subject.  The
  1  6 department shall solicit and review examples of lesson plans
  1  7 for each of the Iowa core standards and shall include in
  1  8 the database only those lesson plans that reflect the best
  1  9 practices for each Iowa core standard by grade and subject.
  1 10 Teachers whose lesson plans are identified as exemplifying best
  1 11 practices and are included in the database shall be presented
  1 12 with a certificate of achievement by the department.
  1 13                           EXPLANATION
  1 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 15 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 16    This bill requires the director of the department of
  1 17 education to maintain on the department's internet site a
  1 18 searchable database of examples of lesson plans for each of the
  1 19 Iowa core standards by grade and subject.  The department must
  1 20 solicit and review examples of lesson plans and shall include
  1 21 in the database only those lesson plans that reflect the best
  1 22 practices for each Iowa core standard by grade and subject.
  1 23 Teachers whose lesson plans are identified as exemplifying best
  1 24 practices and are included in the database shall be presented
  1 25 with a certificate of achievement by the department.
