  3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.37, subsection 2, Code 2017, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    2.  Registration plates issued for a A motor vehicle which
  1  4 is model year 1948 thirty model years old or older, and or a
  1  5  reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles vehicle built
  1  6 to resemble a model year 1948 vehicle or older motor vehicle
  1  7 which is thirty model years old or older, other than a truck
  1  8 registered for more than five tons, autocycle, motorcycle, or
  1  9 truck tractor, may display one registration plate on the rear
  1 10 of the vehicle if the other registration plate issued to the
  1 11 vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all times when the vehicle
  1 12 is operated on a public highway.
  1 13                           EXPLANATION
  1 14 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1 15 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 16    Current law permits motor vehicles which are model year 1948
  1 17 or older, and reconstructed or specially constructed vehicles
  1 18 built to resemble vehicles which are model year 1948 or older,
  1 19 other than trucks registered for more than 5 tons, autocycles,
  1 20 motorcycles, or truck tractors, to display one registration
  1 21 plate on the rear of the vehicle if the other registration
  1 22 plate issued to the vehicle is carried in the vehicle at all
  1 23 times when the vehicle is operated on a public highway. This
  1 24 bill broadens that provision to include motor vehicles which
  1 25 are 30 model years old or older, and reconstructed or specially
  1 26 constructed vehicles built to resemble motor vehicles which are
  1 27 30 model years old or older.
