the

Constitution

charged

equal

justice
under

law;
and

WHEREAS,
the
United
States
Constitution
delegated

the
determination
of
how
many
justices
sit
on
the

Supreme
Court
of
the
United
States
to
the
United
States
12
Congress;
and
13
WHEREAS,
in
1869
the
United
States
Congress
raised
14
the
number
of
justices
on
the
Supreme
Court
of
the
15
United
States
to
nine
and
has
maintained
that
number
16
since
that
time;
NOW
THEREFORE,

BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
THE
HOUSE
OF

REPRESENTATIVES
CONCURRING,
That
the
Iowa
General

Assembly
urges
the
Congress
of
the
United
States
to
20
propose
an
amendment
to
the
Constitution
of
the
United
21
States
requiring
that
the
Supreme
Court
of
the
United
22
States
shall
be
composed
of
nine
justices;
and
23
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
Secretary
