House Resolution 23 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 23 BY SCHULTZ A Resolution requesting the legislative council to 1 establish an interim study committee to study 2 elimination of the income tax in Iowa. 3 WHEREAS, the Iowa income tax creates a substantial 4 financial burden on the citizens of this state as they 5 work hard to grow businesses, educate their children, 6 and save for their future; and 7 WHEREAS, the collection and administration of the 8 income tax represents a substantial expense to the 9 state of Iowa; and 10 WHEREAS, elimination of the income tax could have 11 a positive impact on Iowa’s taxpayers, economy, and 12 job growth, without limiting the state’s ability to 13 provide for the protection, security, and benefit of 14 its citizens; NOW THEREFORE, 15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 16 That the House of Representatives formally requests 17 the legislative council to authorize and establish an 18 interim study committee, composed of members of the 19 Senate and the House of Representatives, to commence 20 meeting during the 2013 interim as soon as practicable. 21 The purpose of the interim committee is to study the 22 feasibility of eliminating the income tax in Iowa 23 and to receive and make recommendations regarding 24 elimination of the income tax, submitting the study 25 committee’s conclusions and recommendations in a report 26 to the general assembly by January 1, 2014. 27 -1- LSB 1670YH (1) 85 mm/rj 1/ 1
