House Resolution 127 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 127 BY LANDON , GUSTAFSON , MAXWELL , ALONS , VANDER LINDEN , THOMAS , KEARNS , WINDSCHITL , PRICHARD , STANERSON , ISENHART , MEYER , and SHAW A Resolution honoring the service and sacrifice of 1 Iowans who served or lost their lives in the Vietnam 2 War. 3 WHEREAS, a ceremony will take place at Iowa’s 4 Vietnam War Memorial on the State Capitol complex 5 grounds to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 6 beginning of the United States’ involvement in what was 7 to become known as the Vietnam War; and 8 WHEREAS, for the United States, the Vietnam War 9 lasted into 1975, with three million American men and 10 women involved in the conflict; and 11 WHEREAS, about 115,000 Iowans served in the Vietnam 12 War, and over 850 Iowans lost their lives during that 13 war; and 14 WHEREAS, those fallen Iowans came from hundreds of 15 Iowa cities and farms, large and small, from Ackley to 16 Yale, leaving thousands of friends and family members 17 to mourn their loss; NOW THEREFORE, 18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 19 That the House of Representatives urges all Iowans to 20 reflect back 50 years to the beginning of the United 21 States military action in Vietnam, to remember the 22 sacrifice of thousands of Iowans who served and the 23 more than 850 Iowans who lost their lives during the 24 Vietnam War, and to honor the service and memory of 25 those courageous Iowans. 26 -1- LSB 6225HH (9) 85 jr/nh 1/ 1
